This little family business has a long history spreading over 3 generations.
Our founder the OG Wijeratne, Mr. Martin Wijeratne first opened Wijeratne Brothers back in 1946. Coming from a modest background, armed with a night school English education and no silver spoon to fall back on it was through his sheer will and dedication that this business came to life.
A few years later in 1959 our Colombo 11 showroom opened its doors as a state-of-the-art showroom at the time and the business continued to grow and expand into a number of industries, serving both the public and corporate sectors for 76 years to date. Mr. Martin Wijeratne was recognized as a captain of industry and received many accolades for his contributions to the social, political, and religious landscape of the country.
Has it all been a walk in the park since then? Nope, it absolutely hasn’t. We’ve had a very many highs and even deeper lows but the good name of our business persevered because of the concrete foundations and good business practices instilled in us by Mr. Martin Wijeratne from the get-go.
From the first generation to the third, did it take us a bit of time to find our footing again? Yes, it sure did! We’ve also realized that there is no perfect moment, ripe with luck and chance. If you want something you have to make a go for it. You have to begin.
It took us close to 2 decades to find direction and take the next step forward. We found our ethos to be that quality doesn’t necessarily need to break the bank. Having found this purpose the rest began to fall into place.
With the 3rd generation of Wijeratnes now leading the charge, in 2019 we opened our first ever branch in Kiribathgoda, serving discerning customers in the area and determined to provide a good watch for every Sri Lankan wrist, irrespective of what you spend.
We are here now, for good. Standing on the shoulders of giants, humbled and grateful for the opportunities we are presented with and determined to make something of them.
